What is QHSE?
QHSE stands for Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection. But what does this acronym without legal obligation actually entail?
In "New German," I understand it as a qualified individual who possesses the following core competencies:
- University degree (Engineering or Natural Sciences)
- Training as a Specialist in Occupational Safety (SiFa)
- Safety and Health Protection Coordinator (SiGeKo)
- Work and Safety Coordinator (A+S)
- Environmental Officer (Waste, Water, Emission Control)
- Fire Protection Officer
- ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
- ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
- ISO 50001 (Energy Management)
- ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management)
- Proficiency in English
- Regular training and further education
In addition to these core competencies, built upon their university degree, they bring expertise in our case:
- Chemistry (Chemical Act, Hazardous Substances, REACH, Medical Devices, Fire Protection, Analyses, Environmental Law)
- Biology (BiostoffV, Mold, Microbiology, Pharmaceuticals, Environmental Protection)
- Fire Protection (Specialist Planner and Site Manager for Fire Protection)
The QHSE professional doesn't do everything alone. They are advisory and supportive on-site, acting as a liaison between all relevant departments.
If there is a QHSE department, they are responsible for creating the QHSE management on-site and maintaining documentation. QHSE management deals with the planning, implementation, control, and optimization of operational processes in the areas of health protection, occupational safety, and environmental management.
They continue to fulfill their mission of protecting people, nature, and the environment, ensuring compliance with legal requirements from legislators and DGUV.
