UVV inspections
What is a UVV inspection?
In the accident prevention regulations, also known as UVV inspection, the procedures are defined to ensure safety in handling operational and work equipment. These regulations establish mandatory duties for each operation and company, necessary for health protection and workplace safety.
It is the independent responsibility of operators to ensure that all operational and work equipment used undergo sufficient inspection at regular intervals of one year by a qualified or knowledgeable person. Unfortunately, it is often observed that equipment operators neglect to perform inspections or fail to do so within the specified timeframe. Consequently, inspections of portable electrical equipment, electrical installations, machinery, etc., are frequently left undone.
What are the consequences of foregoing a UVV inspection?
If the annual UVV inspection is not conducted and documented, consequences may be imposed on the operation. In the event of an accident, the accident insurance may not cover the costs, transferring them to the company. If an employee is injured, the employer may face claims for damages. In the worst case, significant fines and even imprisonment may be imposed.
How does a UVV inspection proceed, and how often must it be conducted?
Fundamentally, a UVV inspection must be conducted before initial operation to ensure safe use for both the operation and users. Additionally, it is legally mandated that a UVV inspection is performed at regular intervals, typically not exceeding one year.
Both the UVV inspection before initial operation and the regular inspections must document specific criteria. Alongside examining operational conditions and specific usage conditions, several other aspects need to be recorded. These include the date and scope of the inspection, the name and address of the inspector, the final results of the inspection (including identified deficiencies), the indication of safety concerns, and an assessment regarding further operation.
UVV Inspection Sticker
If necessary, details about follow-up inspections must also be included. If the thorough inspection finds no issues preventing continued operation, an inspection sticker is affixed, indicating the latest possible next inspection date.
